Commonly Asked Questions (and Answers)
We hope to answer any questions you might have here. If you do not find the answer to your question(s), please email us.
- Q: I made a reservation and paid my deposit. I got a confirmation for my payment, but my reservation confirmation & meeting point information has not arrived. What should I do?
-
A: If you have made a reservation, you should receive a payment verification from PayPal and a reservation confirmation from Taste Florence. Occasionally, guests do not receive their reservation confirmation, as it gets blocked as spam.
If you do not receive your reservation confirmation from us within 4 hours of your payment, please email us and we will resend your confirmation manually.
- Q: How do I get to the meeting point?
-
A: Our meeting points are in centrally located areas of the city. We provide a photo of our meeting points and an address, upon reservation confirmation. When in doubt, call us or email us if you are unsure about your meeting point.
- Q: May I tip my guide?
-
A: Nothing would make your guide feel more appreciated! If you have a good time and your host is helpful, they always appreciate tips.
- Q: What is the best way to reserve my tour?
-
A: We have created an automated reservation system, which allows you to check availability and pay online, using a credit card or paypal. You need not have a paypal account to pay, as there is a credit card option.
- Q: I emailed Taste Florence but have not gotten a response! What happened?
-
A: We always try to respond within 24 hours of receiving an email. However, our emails are sometimes blocked as spam, since our email begins with info@ and is flagged by some servers. In order to avoid any mishaps, please mark us as a friend on your email account. We promise not to email you unless it is in response to your email.
- Q: What happens if I get lost and get to the meeting point late?
-
A: Your guide can only wait ten minutes before starting the tour. Remember, other participants will also be waiting and it is not fair to them if the tour runs late or gets changed due to your late arrival. We cannot offer refunds if you arrive late. Please allow plenty of time to get to your meeting point, which is centrally located in the histroric center. There have been very few cases of this happening, and almost all of them involved visitors trying to drive in to the city! Please take a train or bus in, or allow yourself lots of time to find your way. Those who are lodging in the historic center and surrounding area either walk or take a bus or taxi.
- Q: I want to take the tour on a date that is marked as full on the reservation calendar. Is there any chance of reserving that date anyway?
-
A: If you absolutely positively only have one day in which you can attend your desired tour but it is full, send us an email and we will try to come up with a solution. This can only be done in advance- not last minute.
- Q: I love food, but my spouse/friend/child could care less! What should I do?
-
A: If your spouse/friend/child is willing and able, consider taking separate tours. Perhaps while you are joining us, they can visit a museum or go shopping. You will not be alone - there will be other foodies participating to chat with!
- Q: Will my child enjoy participating?
-
A: We have had lots of kids and young adults on the tour. Most of them have had a great time and were a pleasure to meet. Only you know your child: Are they curious? Polite and attentive? Do they generally like food and trying new things? Are you willing to discipline them if they get bored or distracted?
- Q: I am a vegetarian/vegan/or have a specific allergy. Can I join the tastings?
-
A: Our tours are primarily vegetarian, with the exception of one meat tasting, which we substitute with beans or veggies whenever available. There is a lot of dairy on the tour, so it isn't suitable for vegans - unless they are willing to skip the cheese tasting, since the gelateria serves plenty of great dairy-free sorbetto!
If you have any mortal allergies, such as nuts or bee stings- please notify us before your tour date and again on the day of your tour to be safe.
- Q: I am coming in to Florence from the countryside. Should I drive in or take a train?
-
A: Whenever possible, we recommend taking a train or bus into the city. Parking is limited and expensive and most cars are not allowed to drive or park in the city center and often get ticketed. Trains and buses arrive at the central station (Stazione Santa Maria Novella), which is a 10-15 minute walk to our meeting points.
If you must drive in, consider parking at Piazzale Michelangelo - which usually has some free parking available and a great view to start your day in Florence! However, allow yourself plenty of time for traffic, parking, and getting to the meeting point by taxi or bus.
Please consult your lodging facility regarding directions to Florence from where you are staying. They usually know the best option - which is often provided on their websites.
- Q: I don't understand how much the Espresso Academy "Crash Course" costs! 8 Euro or 55 Euro?
-
A: The full cost of the course is 55 Euro. However, we only require an 8 Euro deposit per person. You pay the balance to your teacher on the day of the tour.
